June 27-28

Hope everyone had a nice weekend and sabbath day today. It was relaxing here and we finally got some rain. Now we're hoping for more!

No animal photos were on the trail camera this week, so instead here are two photos of a barn swallow nest taken one week apart. There would have been a third photo from today but I didn't take it because the nest is empty. They've all flown. We have around a dozen active nests in various stages of incubation and development. This was the first one to hatch and leave. If they each hatch an average of 4, with the adult pairs, that means we'll have around 70 swallows flying around the farm in a couple weeks. And many of the adults will hatch a second brood.

1st photo: Taken June 21st. Recently hatched. There are generally four in a nest; so it is unusual to see six!
2nd photo: Same nest; photo taken June 14 shortly after they hatched. They grow fast in a week eating flies!
